Faculty Advising - InstructionsThe advising calendar provides a way for students and advisors to schedule meetings. The calendar requires the faculty to blockout times they are NOT available. The students can then request one of the available slots, which are20-minutes in length, in the calendar. Once a student requests the time, an e-mail will go out to the appropriate faculty member, the student, and the Academic Administrator. To block out time, please follow the instructions below: 1. Login below after you have gone through the instructions. This will take you to your calendar which is a publicly viewable calendar. This is where your students will request a time with you and you will receive an e-mail asking you to approve or reject the request. 2. Once you have logged in, you can manage your own calendar by clicking the Admin link on the bottom of the page. To change the time interval for your calendar, go to the Admin page, click Preferences, and change the Time Interval value. There are numerous settings in your Preference panel -- feel free to experiment with them to configure your calendar to look the way you want it to look. 3. To add an entry (or to block out time you are not available) click the "+" sign in the upper right corner of any time block. This will allow you to add an event. Enter information into the fields as appropriate. On the right side of the Add Entry page, you may select "Public" or "Confidential", depending on if you want anyone else to see the description of that entry. Confidential entry time blocks will still be displayed publicly, but the contents of the event will be replaced with "Private". 4. For advising, block out all of the times you are not available to advise by adding events during the times you are not available. 5. When a student signs up for advising, you will receive an e-mail
regarding a new event being put on your calendar. This event will
display on your calendar while you're logged in, but will not be viewable
by anyone else until it is approved. To approve the event, log in
to WebCal, and take one of three actions, any of which will approve
the event. 6. For more information and help, see the WebCalendar User Manual. |
